PAL-V has said the Liberty will move to electric power once battery technology becomes light enough, and PAL-V signed a cooperation agreement with the Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) in 2019 to develop an autonomous electric flying car for the longer term. The current Liberty uses dual Rotex gasoline engines — one for driving, both for flying.
